Khoekhoegowab Bible Translation

The translation of the Khoekhoegowab New Translation was already finished in 2009. The translation team is progressing well with this project and the following has been reached in this year:
(a) The translation of the books of Genesis, Exodus, Ruth, 1&2 Samuel, 1Kings, Esther, and Song of Songs was completed.
(b) The drafting of Leviticus, 2 Kings and Ecclesiastes was completed.
(c) The Deuterocanonical Books that are finished: Baruch, Tobit, Judith, Esther Greek (additions), Wisdom of Solomon, Bel and the Dragon, Letter of Jeremiah, and Song of the Three Young Men.
(d) The remaining Deuterocanonical books (1&2 Maccabees and Sirach) were drafted, but still need exegetical checking and revision. The Church Reading Committee still needs to revise it. It will have to stand over until 2013 due to the retirement of the main translator of the Deuterocanonical Books at the end of 2011. Negotiations with the Catholic Church for a replacement in 2012 have started.

When taking everything into consideration, 48% of the Bible (including the Deuterocanonical Books) is finished (2010 – 40%; 2009 – 30%; 2008 – 26%; 2007 – 21%; 2006 – 18%; 2005 – 13%). The translation team was trained by Dr. Gerrit van Steenbergen in Hebrew poetry and in advanced skills of Paratext 7.2.

One translator received 2 months further training in Hebrew in Nairobi, Kenya. The KKG church community is activity involved in the translation project by means of the weekly radio program and by means of their representation on the KKG Management Committee.
